Architecture in harmony with nature

19.05.2023 - Dutch residential construction project 't Eemgoed sets new standards for design, sustainability and energy efficiency – inverted roof with JACKODUR® from JACKON by BEWI installed. Bungalows that blend in harmoniously and seamlessly with surrounding landscape. Pioneering and efficient construction focusing on energy neutrality: with the residential construction project 't Eemgoed in Almere, Netherlands, the architectural firm cepezed of Delft, Netherlands, is setting standards. And JACKODUR® insulation is making a significant contribution toward satisfying these 82 residential units’ high sustainability requirements.

Ensconced in nature

The special architectural concept of 't Eemgoed is readily apparent at first glance:  the bungalows are surrounded by green and ensconced in nature. That makes these 60-to-150-square-meter (650-to-1600-square-foot) buildings an integral part of the landscape. Green roofs and surrounding green spaces foster a healthy micro-climate and counteract soil sealing. At the same time, the planted roofs create an even higher quality of living by serving as playgrounds or private vegetable gardens for the residents.

Inverted roof with vegetation

For this ambitious residential construction project, the developers from 2Open and the architects from cepezed selected the inverted roof solution from JACKON by BEWI. This offers several benefits at once: these include not only high insulation values and continuous protection of the building structure, but also the green roof option, which underscores the sustainable character of the building. Another factor is the weight benefit that comes with the lean structure of the inverted roof thanks to the highly efficient JACKODUR® insulation boards made of durable XPS.

Added value of JACKODUR® Plus

“The inverted roof provides permanent protection against moisture damage. JACKODUR® Plus insulation boards also help ensure this, right along with the waterproof JACKODUR® WA filter layer,” explains Sjoerd van de Werf of Quality Roofing Systems. He recommended the JACKODUR® products especially for their long service life, robustness and ease of processing. “JACKODUR® Plus insulation boards have an outstanding lambda value of 0.027 W/(m·k). As a result, they exhibit excellent insulation efficiency – which was a decisive factor in this unique project. Because less volume it needed, that provides considerable cost and weight benefits. JACKODUR® also enables fast and easy installation – which means genuine added value in the construction phase,” continues van de Werf.

Comprehensive support during the construction phase

These benefits enabled workers to install about 7500 square meters (80,000 square feet) JACKODUR® Plus 300 on a tight schedule. In close coordination with all participants, a tailor-made logistics concept was implemented for this purpose. “Together with Roof Protection, we advised the project developers and architects on the best roof construction solution. The result is a unique, energy-neutral residential project with green roofs, where the JACKODUR® inverted roof made a significant ecological contribution,” emphasizes Marco Duijvelaar of JACKON by BEWI Netherlands.
