Opting for a circular shower restored the necessary freedom of movement. The client is a stylist and set designer – so her expectations regarding design and the overall effect of the space were correspondingly high.
The key feature: the circular shower has been deliberately positioned so that it extends slightly into the adjoining room, an office. This gives the bathroom noticeably more space to move around in, whilst the rounded rear section appears in the office as a visible, gently curved wall surface. What serves as a practical solution also becomes an architectural detail: a true signature element, both functionally and aesthetically, which does not ‘constrict’ the floor plan but opens it up.
The shower was installed using JACKOBOARD® Aqua Circle from JACKON Insulation by BEWI. The system is designed as a fully accessible, all-in-one solution and consists of a floor panel and a five-part shower screen with tongue-and-groove joints. For installers, this means: clearly defined dimensions, a predictable installation process and a solution that allows the next step – tiling – to be carried out immediately.
The elements feature a waterproof XPS core with a special coating on both sides. The wheelchair-accessible floor element is suitable for very low installation heights and has an integrated CNC-milled gradient that ensures efficient water drainage and facilitates a clean and quick installation. With an internal diameter of 1,000 mm (external diameter 1,100 mm), it creates a comfortable shower area that feels surprisingly spacious despite its compact footprint. The drainage capacity is 0.9 l/s; the drain can be ordered separately. Bespoke sizes are available on request.
In the finished bathroom, the advantage of the curved design becomes clear: the shower area offers the desired freedom of movement, and the curves give the bathroom structure without the need for additional walls that would visually close off the space. The curved back wall in the office becomes a design feature with a high degree of recognisability – in this project, it even served as inspiration to revisit this motif in the interior design.
